WRH says same-day appointments for testing available

If you need a test for COVID-19, and do not want to wait, Windsor Regional Hospital has some same-day appointments available.

It anticipated some same-day appointments would open up as it opened its assessment centre at its Met Campus seven days a week.

Next day appointments have also opened up.

Those who seek a test at Windsor Regional Hospital or at Erie Shores Healthcare will have to meet certain criteria. The hospital is not testing asymptomatic individuals. It asks those experiencing mild to moderate symptoms to call their primary care provider before booking an appointment online.

Your health card will be required to book an appointment.

Since the swabs are not tested at Windsor Regional Hospital, it can take two-to-five days to get the results back. Those who test positive will be contacted by the Windsor Essex County Health unit.

Those experiencing serious symptoms including difficulty breathing, severe chest pain, feeling confused or losing consciousness should call 911. Also call if your child is having difficulty breathing, is making a crowing or high-pitched sound while breathing, has bluish discolouration around their mouth, is very sleepy, is not responding, or is having seizures.

If you have booked an appointment already, but can not make it, the hospital wants to remind people it is important to cancel. Call 519-973-4443 Monday to Friday to cancel your appointment. This will free up a time for someone else to get tested.

Those who are First Nation, Metis, or Inuit can also book an appointment by calling the Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre in Windsor at 519-916-1755. The centre is open between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. seven days a week.
