Three charged with cocaine, methamphetamine possession

A traffic stop in Leamington has resulted in three people being arrested on drug and stolen property charges.

Ontario Provincial Police say an officer stopped a vehicle on Wigle Street at around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday. The officer learned that the driver's licence had been suspended and he was not complying with the terms of a release order.

A further search of the vehicle uncovered unspecified quantities of various illicit drugs and stolen property.

Two men and a woman have been charged in relation to the investigation. Brian Jacques, 37, of Leamington, John Miehl, 53, of Chatham, and Cristelle Vanden Enden, 44, of Chatham are all charged with cocaine possession, methamphetamine possession, possession of other drugs as defined by the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), possession of stolen property, and failure to comply with the Reopening Ontario Act.

Vanden Enden is a police officer in Chatham-Kent who is currently on a leave of absence while charges of alleged fraud are investigated.

In addition, Jacques was charged with failure to comply with a release order, and a traffic violation.

The defendants will have a chance to respond to the charges in a Leamington court on March 8.
