Three more charges pending in ongoing Windsor blitz

A handful of new charges were handed out as a COVID-19 enforcement blitz continued last week in Windsor.

The city released the results of the fifth week of its enforcement initiative, during which bylaw officers visit area businesses to ensure they are complying with the COVID-19 lockdown guidelines set by the Ontario Ministry of Health and the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. Officers also respond to complaints about alleged violations received through the 311 call service.

This past week, bylaw officers issued three warnings, and laid three additional charges under the Reopening Ontario Act of 2020.

The blitz had been in place since mid-November, after a resolution was made by Windsor-Essex area mayors to knuckle down on enforcement in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases.

Individuals can face fines of $750 for non-compliance, and up to $10-million for corporations.
