Large donation will feed over 300 on Christmas

The Downtown Mission will be able to serve about 300 people on Christmas Day thanks to a large donation.

Local entrepreneur Sam Sinjari donated turkeys, hams, potatoes and stuffing for about 300 people.

“I believe when we come together, together we can make great changes for our community as a whole," said Sinjari in a media release. "When many people step in to help with any contribution they can afford, when those many donations are put together, the Mission will be able to make greater impact in the lives of those who go to the Mission for help."

Downtown Mission staff and volunteers will prepare the meal and serve Christmas lunch and dinner between 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. A number of COVID-19 safety protocols have been implemented to protect the patrons and staff at the Mission.

With the challenges of 2020 still vivid, Sinjari is hoping people continue to step up and help the Mission in the new year.

"I would like to see many more individuals or companies sign up to become a monthly donor for the Downtown Mission for 2021, to help make 2021 the year we can together, get more people off the streets or out of a shelter and into their own homes," said Sinjari.

The Mission will also be feeding the residents of 245 Detroit St. through this donation, many of whom were formerly living in an encampment in downtown Windsor.
