The Grinch may have visited Jubilee Park sometime Friday night after equipment installed to play holiday music was stolen less than 24 hours after it was set up.
As a result of the city cancelling it's yearly Bright Lights event in Jackson Park due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all nine business improvement areas (BIA) received grants to do a series of signature displays across the city.
With its grant, the Walkerville BIA decided to install lighting and speakers that would play Christmas music throughout the park between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Darrin Drouillard, a Senior Engineering Manager for Blackburn Radio in Windsor, helped install a security box and speakers in the park. The next day he discovered his hard work had been ripped down sometime overnight Friday.
"The speakers have been stolen, the box that houses the equipment [was] ripped down off of the sign [and damaged] damage has been done to the box on the sign... We've informed Windsor police and a police report was filed,” Drouillard told Blackburn News Windsor.
The BIA has not yet offered a statement regarding the theft, but Drouillard believes the person(s) responsible for stealing the equipment knew what they were doing.
"Everything was bolted. They obviously came with tools, they had wire cutters, they had tools to dismantle the equipment. So they came prepared to take it,” he explained.

Drouillard says they hope to get another chance at spreading some holiday cheer by replacing the stolen equipment in the park sometime before Christmas.
