The family of a 27-year-old man hopes the public can help them out after he died suddenly of COVID-19 on Monday.
Weng James was admitted to Windsor Regional Hospital last Friday with symptoms of the virus. He soon took a turn for the worse and was placed in a medically-induced coma.
So far, a GoFundMe page set up to help the family financially has collected almost $29,000, surpassing its goal of $20,000.
"Weng was a loving brother, son, cousin, and friend. His charm and charisma lit up any room he entered," read the page. "Most importantly, we will all remember Weng for his big heart and gentle spirit."
On Wednesday, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported his death as the 85th fatality in the region because of the virus since March. He had no underlying health issues.
The day James' death was announced, the health unit also reported a record 127 new cases of COVID-19.
