The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has declared an outbreak at General Brock Public School after two cases of COVID-19 were identified within one class.
The class was dismissed last week after a high-risk exposure was identified. At least two cases have now been identified.
The entire class is being asked to isolate and get tested for COVID-19.
The school remains open for all other students. All students and staff outside of the cohort are deemed low-risk. They are asked to continue to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, cough, and loss of taste.
“It is essential for the students to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms every day. If you have any symptoms, go get tested,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed.
The Greater Essex County District School Board has been working closely with the health unit since the outbreak was declared.
“The health and safety of students and staff remains our first priority and we continue to inform the school community and implement all health and safety protocols, including enhanced cleaning and disinfecting of the entire school,” said Superintendent of Education Sharon Pyke.
The first case of COVID-19 at the school was identified on November 30. Students from the cohort will be required to isolate for at least 14 days.
