WRH procures freezers for COVID-19 vaccines

Windsor Regional Hospital has procured multiple freezers to house COVID-19 vaccines when they are delivered.

The hospital now has three -80 degree Celcius freezers to accommodate the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and four -25 degree freezers for the Moderna vaccine on-site ready for use.

“We immediately procured freezers sufficient to store the capacity needed for our region literally the minute we heard of the vaccine storage requirements. We will work with ESC partners and the Vaccination Taskforce on receipt, distribution and inoculation,” stated David Musyj, President and CEO, Windsor Regional Hospital.

Each of the -80 degree Celcius freezers can hold approximately 400,000 doses of the vaccine while each of the -25 degrees Celcius freezers can hold 140,000 doses.

The first doses of the vaccines are expected to arrive in Canada in the first quarter of 2021.

Windsor Regional Hospital is working with its Erie-St. Clair regional partners to ensure that some of these freezers can be transported to other locations across the region once a distribution plan is confirmed by the province.
