Windsor-Essex is not one of the regions moving levels on the province's COVID-19 response framework this week.
The Middlesex-London Health Unit and Thunder Bay District Health Unit are moving to the orange restrict level and the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is moving to yellow-protect.
Windsor-Essex remains in the red or control level on the scale. That's despite the growing number of cases and continued strain on the overall healthcare system.
The region has officially been in the red-level since Monday, November 30, at 12:01 a.m. Trends in public health data are reviewed weekly to determine if the health units should stay where they are or be moved to a higher level. Public health units will stay at a level for a minimum of 28 days, or two COVID-19 incubation periods, to determine if current public health measures are helping to reduce the spread of the virus.
Residents are asked to continue following all public health measures. That includes avoiding close contact with anyone not living in the same household.
