Students sent home after COVID-19 case confirmed at Windsor Catholic school

Two dozen students in Windsor have been dismissed from school after one of them tested positive for COVID-19.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit informed the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board of the positive case at Corpus Christi Catholic Middle School Wednesday afternoon.

The school board said the infected student is part of the school's Sports Academy program at Central Park Athletics and has not attended the main campus of Corpus Christi.

As a result of the positive case, a cohort of 24 students has been told that they are not to attend school for two weeks.

"We have been working with the health unit by providing lists of students and staff who may have been directly affected. The health unit is contacting any individuals, both students and staff, who may have been affected, and will give directions for them to follow," the school board said. "We want to assure parents that we are cooperating with the health unit and doing everything we can to make sure that we continue to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for their children."

Any student who has not been contacted directly by the school board has not been identified as a close contact and can attend school as per usual.

There are currently eight active cases of COVID-19 at schools within the Catholic school board. Five of the cases stem from W.J. Langlois Catholic Elementary School where an outbreak has been declared and the school has been closed.
