Lakeshore residents will see more flood prevention measures thanks to the 2021 budget.
Town councillors announced a budget agreement Wednesday morning, following two days of virtual deliberation. Mayor Tom Bain said it was important to ensure that continued flood prevention was a focal point of the plan.
"This budget continues to address our infrastructure and stormwater needs and reflects improvements throughout Lakeshore that we have heard requested by our residents and businesses," said Bain.
Town council is expected to pass a bylaw officially approving the budget at its meeting on December 8.
An overall increase in service levels has been figured into the budget, resulting in a 1.17 per cent blended tax increase, or 2.71 per cent municipal. For someone owning a property worth $300,000, this translates into a $37 increase for all of 2021, or roughly 77 cents per week.
Among the capital budget projects covered in the budget are an expansion to the St. Denis Wastewater Plant, improvements to phase-one of the stormwater master plan, water main improvements on Railway Avenue and Strong Road, and road resurfacing treatments.
Other improvements include high water flood mitigation, and a lighting retrofit project at the Atlas Tube Centre.
Complete details on the budget will be available at the town's official website starting December 4.
