OPP close weapons investigation in Belle River

Ontario Provincial Police say a weapons complaint in Lakeshore Monday morning was unfounded.

Officers were called to a home on Chisholm Street in Belle River around 7:45 a.m. to look into an allegation regarding a weapon.

According to Constable Amanda Allen, police closed the intersection of Chisholm Street and St. Peter Street as a precaution and asked people to avoid the area. Allen said two nearby schools were briefly placed in hold-and-secure mode.

Investigators determined that the allegation did not pan out and there was never a threat to public safety. No charges will be filed.
