WECHU reports first COVID-19 death since September

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported the region's 77th death due to COVID-19.

A man in his 90s passed away Monday, he was a resident of a long-term care home. This is the first coronavirus-related death reported in the region since September.

On Tuesday, the health unit reported 24 more cases of COVID-19 in the region. Among the new cases are six that were community-acquired, five are close contacts of confirmed cases, three are agricultural workers, and 10 cases are still being investigated by health unit staff.

There are three long-term care and retirement homes experiencing outbreaks. The outbreak at Riverside Place has now been resolved.

The health unit is still monitoring outbreaks at an agricultural facility in Leamington and a student residence at the University of Windsor.

There are 191 active cases in the community.

Ontario reported 1,249 new cases out of 26,500 tests completed. In the last 24 hours, 12 more people in the province have died due to COVID-19.
