Ten cases of COVID-19 Saturday in Windsor-Essex, over 1,000 province-wide

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit had ten new cases of COVID-19 to report Saturday.

Of the ten, five were from close contact with cases public health officials are already following. One more case was travel-related, and the remainder is still being investigated.

There are currently 48 active cases in the region.

Across Ontario, public health officials reported another spike in daily cases. On Saturday morning, there were 1,015 new infections.

That brings the total case count in the province to 76,730.

A week ago, infections also surpassed the 1,000-mark, but during the week daily cases had fallen and were hovering in the 800s.

Saturday's report showed a 1.4 per cent jump from Friday's case count, which was 896.

There were also nine new deaths Saturday bringing the provincial death toll to 3,136.

A total of 39,667 people were tested for the virus in Ontario Friday, the most in the country but still below a target set by the Ford government.

Across Canada, 3,457 new cases were recorded Friday for a total caseload just below 232,000.

Deaths country-wide since March now number 10,110 with 27,952 cases active as of Friday. About 83.6 per cent of total cases across Canada are considered resolved.
