The City of Windsor has given the Downtown Farmers' Market the go-ahead to extend its season until December 12.
Usually, the market ends its season at the end of October. It was expected to end this Saturday, but its permit was extended an additional six weeks.
"We've wanted to expand into the winter season for years now," said Market Manager Steve Green.
Despite the challenges presented to the market by the pandemic, organizers said vendors "rose to every challenge."
The Downtown Business Improvement Association is stoked about the extension too.
"To be able to extend the market for another six weeks keeps the downtown vibrant and full of life during the colder months," said Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association Chair Brian Yeomans. "[It] supports many of the vendors who have had an especially challenging time operating through a pandemic, and drives traffic and visitation to our member businesses too."
The market, located on the ground floor of the Pelissier Street Garage, has up to 40 vendors every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It expects to operate at near vendor capacity each week. Many of the produce sellers cultivate goods throughout the winter, while many of the artisans will have the opportunity to sell holiday gifts.
