Windsor man ups the ante, wins over $78K

A 44-year-old Windsor man made a last-minute decision to play a game and won a nice prize.

Shane Poisson, who is married with kids, won $73,735 in the OLG's Poker Lotto All-In game on October 17. He also won $5,000 on the instant portion of the game for a total of $78,735. Poisson picked up his winnings this week at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

Poisson, who bought his winning ticket at Mac's on Forest Glade Drive in Windsor, said he plays the lottery regularly, and decided on impulse to play Poker Lotto All-In.

"I was speechless when I saw the winning hand appear on the screen," said Poisson. "It’s a night I’ll never forget."

He said his wife exploded in disbelief when he went outside to tell her the news.

"She told me to go back inside because it’s cold out. I told her I wasn’t shaking because I was cold, I was shaking because I just won $78,000," said Poisson. "She erupted in cheers and screams of celebration.”

Poisson will use the winnings to pay off bills and save for his daughter's education. He also plans to purchase t-shirts for a teen optimist club that he runs.

Poker Lotto players can go "all-in" for an additional dollar for a shot at a jackpot that starts at $10,000 and grows until someone wins it.
