WECHU issues first mask-related fine

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit issued its first provincial offences fine for not adhering to face mask orders.

A convenience store in Windsor has been fined $750 after receiving multiple verbal warnings and a written warning.

Public Health inspectors have completed 1,200 inspections and responded to 990 complaints since September 1. The most common complaints include lack of face covering, no physical distancing and not cleaning and disinfecting in between patrons.

On Monday, the health unit reported three new cases of COVID-19 in the region. Among the new cases is a close contact of a confirmed case and a community-acquired case. One case remains under investigation.

There are now 54 active cases of COVID-19 in the community. Two people are being treated in hospital.
