Ward 7 byelection candidate Igor Dzaic has told BlackburnNews.com he will soon be meeting with members of W.E. Trans Support to discuss recent social media posts many considered transphobic and homophobic.
Dzaic issued an apology on Facebook last week after the social media posts came to light.
"I made a mistake and I accept that my comments were offensive to members of our City of Windsor community," read the apology Friday night. "Over the years, I have taken the time to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community and their important and active role in our community."
W.E. Trans Support extended the invitation to Dzaic and "any other political candidates who are interested in discussing what it means to be trans* and the challenges that trans* people are facing locally, provincially, and nationally."
In an email to BlackburnNews, Dzaic said he spoke with members of the agency on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, it would appear W.E. Trans Support is not taking Dzaic's apology at face value.
"Igor Dzaic has stated that he has taken the time to learn more -- However, he continues to invalidate the experiences of trans* people in his ward and in Windsor," read the email from W.E. Trans Support. "He refuses to acknowledge that his comments are discriminatory."
A date for the meeting has not been set.
