WECHU reports five new COVID-19 cases

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has reported five new cases of COVID-19 in the community.

Of the new cases reported Tuesday, one is related to travel outside North America, three are close contacts of confirmed cases, and one case is still under investigation. There are 83 active cases in Windsor-Essex.

As many children head back to school this week, the medical officer of health for Windsor-Essex is urging everyone in the community to be mindful of public health measures.

"Most importantly watch for symptoms of COVID-19 and go to an assessment centre for testing if needed. Please make sure if your children are showing any symptoms please keep them at home and follow-up with your health care provider or public health for further direction," said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is still in the process of hiring 19 nurses to support schools during this time. Each nurse will be assigned a complement of schools and will be responsible for communicating with the school principal regarding all COVID-19 scenarios.
