No parade, Labour Day goes virtual this year

The Windsor District Labour Council will be celebrating Labour Day a little differently this year.

Instead of the usual parade and Labour Day family activities, all celebrations will be held online.

Message and pictures from many union affiliates can already be found online on the Windsor District Labour Council's web page.

Video speeches will also be posted on the webpage, and on the WDLC Facebook page.  The pre-recorded video speeches will go live online on Labour Day.

"Our message always is we need a better society, and we're going to push. We're going to work collectively to push governments and corporations and to work with our allies. More than ever, we realize we've got lots of work to do," said WDLC President Brian Hogan.

Hogan said many of the speeches will focus on how the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the cracks in society, like the lack of pharma-care and the crisis in long-term care facilities.

Hogan said he hopes putting the speeches online will help get their message out to the general public.
