Windsor restaurant offers mask-free patrons a deal

A Windsor restaurant plans to offer a promotion that directly violates both the city's and the health unit's mandatory mask orders.

Oh-Poot-In on Grand Marais Road West said it will hold the event between Friday and Sunday.

The promotion was posted on the restaurant's Facebook page Thursday.

"Anyone who comes in that states they have a medical condition or religious belief in not wearing a mask will get buy one get one half off anything they order," said the post. "We are all about the freedom of your rights, and believe that if you choose to not wear a mask based on medical or religion, that is your right."

The reaction to the post was mixed with many people writing they will not attend the promotion.

"I have been there three times and told many others. I was there tonight and was told I did not need to wear my mask." wrote one patron. "The two employees working there tonight did not wear their masks. I am sorry, but I will not be back. I can't take a chance."

Others expressed their support.

"So awesome!" wrote another poster. "More businesses need to be doing this."

In May, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit issued an order mandating masks be worn in all commercial establishments. Earlier this month, Mayor Drew Dilkens issued an order that went further, mandating them in all indoor public spaces with the exception of places of worship.
