Study suggests limited community spread of COVID-19

The latest epidemiological study by the Windsor Essex County Health Unit shows there was limited to no community transmission of COVID-19 in the last week.

"We are seeing a general decline in the number of cases in the community and the primary exposure continues to be close contact with a confirmed case," said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed. "It is important that we identify that many individuals need to reduce the number of close contacts."

Over the last week, an average of 538 people were tested every day in the community. Of those, around 0.6 per cent tested positive.

On Friday, the health unit reported four new cases of COVID-19 in the community. All four were close contacts of a previously confirmed case.

To date, 2,493 people in the community have tested positive for COVID-19. Of those, 2,357 people have recovered while 72 people have passed away. There are currently 64 active cases in the community. Six people are currently being treated in hospital with one person in the Intensive Care Unit.
