For the past four months, as many as 30 people a day arrived at Windsor Water World to find help dealing with homelessness during the pandemic.
The program offered light refreshments and activities and access to support agencies like the Canadian Mental Health Association, Family Services Windsor-Essex Outreach Team, and the CommUnity Partnership and Housing Information Services.
Manager of Homelessness and Housing with the City of Windsor, Jennifer Tanner, said since April, the program has helped, "340 people in our community who have visited the site over 3,600 times in total."
Now that Windsor-Essex is in stage three of reopening its economy and more public spaces have opened up, those numbers have begun to dwindle.
The city is responding by adjusting the hours of operation for the program at 400 Wyandotte St. E.
"We feel a reduction in hours makes sense at this time," said Tanner.
It will be closed on Sunday, August 30.
After that, it will be open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Those experiencing homelessness can still attend day programs offered by the Downtown Mission and Salvation Army.
