WECHU managing outbreaks at two retirement homes

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported four new cases of COVID-19 in the region Monday.

Three of the four cases originated in one of the two retirement homes currently experiencing outbreaks. At New Beginnings retirement home in Leamington, 17 residents and four staff members have tested positive for the virus.

Chief Nursing Officer Theresa Marentette said they are working closely with the home.

"Infection prevention and control measures, staffing, PPE, all of those issues are all being addressed with the retirement home," said Marentette.

Over the weekend, the health unit reported the region's 72nd COVID-19 related death. A man in his 60s passed away at the hospital after contracting the virus at the retirement home where he lived.
