While some students will be learning from home starting this September, the majority of public school students in Windsor-Essex will be returning to the classrooms.
The Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) said on Monday that 76 per cent of its 11,720 secondary schools students will participate in an adapted, in-person learning program when school resumes next month. Those students will have an equal portion of online learning as well, however, the remaining 24 per cent of students will be taking their classes entirely online from home.
For the board's 24,594 elementary school students, 65 per cent will be attending classes in person five days per week. Another 23 per cent of elementary students will be taking their courses entirely online. The remaining 12 per cent of students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 will be learning off-line, using printed packages at home.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, families of all GECDSB students were asked to complete a survey by Friday, August 21, to inform the board if their children would be enrolled in-class or online for the school year.
Like many school boards in the province, the GECDSB said last week that it will be staggering the start dates for its students. Some students will start on September 8 with all students Grade 1 through Grade 12 back to school by September 11. Junior and Senior Kindergarten students will start on Monday, September 14.
