Health unit offers businesses reopening tool kit

As more businesses reopen, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit wants to make sure it is on the same page with regulations and expectations.

It has posted a tool kit for business on its webpage that business owners can download.

The "Safe Return to Business: A Public Health Toolkit for the Windsor-Essex Business Community" includes six main guidelines, covering issues like cleaning and disinfecting, communicating with staff, preventing the spread of COVID-19, and how to report an illness.

Businesses can also order, free of charge, "stand here" stickers to ensure physical distancing in their establishment.

Now that the region is in Stage 3, personal grooming businesses can reopen. Movie theatres and gyms can open their doors, and real estate agents can once again hold open houses. Libraries can open for regular service.

There is still a list of businesses that will remain closed, including amusement parks, water parks, bingo halls, karaoke rooms, and saunas.

Bars and restaurants can have a limited number of patrons inside again, but dancing is prohibited.

On Wednesday, the health unit offered a toolkit for parents and educators in preparation for the start of school in September.

The health unit reported eight new cases Thursday, including four in the agri-food sector and three in the community. One is under investigation.

CEO Theresa Marentette said 108 active cases remain in the region, with 94 people self-isolating and seven people in the hospital.

Of the 2,410 cases reported since the start of the pandemic, 92.5 per cent are considered recovered.

There are three long-term care or retirement homes experiencing an outbreak, four agri-food workplaces, and two manufacturers.
