OPP issues nearly 200 tickets in Essex County traffic blitz

The Essex County OPP issued nearly 200 traffic tickets over the long weekend.

During the traffic safety blitz, 186 tickets were issued for speeding, failing to move over for emergency vehicles, seatbelts, distracted driving, stunt driving, insurance violations, impaired driving, and other criminal code violations.

"The results undertaken by Essex County OPP members this past Civic Holiday weekend underscore the need for drivers to obey the rules of the road. A speed limit sign is not a suggestion, but the law. Our officers continue to respond to driving complaints and our goal remains to reduce personal injury and fatal collisions on our roadways, waterways and trails," said Inspector Glenn Miller. "We maintain that the majority of drivers are respectful of our traffic laws and we will continue to be diligent in our approach in gaining compliance, thus making our expansive County roadway system safe for all community members and visitors alike."

Across the province, the OPP laid more than 6,600 traffic-related charges throughout the province between Friday and Monday. Among the charges were close to 4,200 speeding charges and more than 120 separate charges laid for stunt driving and racing.
