A flood watch for all shoreline areas along lake St. Clair, the Detroit River and Lake Erie has been extended through the month of August.
The Essex Region Conservation Authority extended the warning because of continued high water levels. Water levels for Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie remain near the all-time record highs set in 2019. Currently, water levels for Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie are roughly 86 centimetres and 73 centimetres, respectively, above the long term average for the month of August.
Due to high water levels, there continues to be a high risk of flooding, especially in times of severe weather.
In addition to flooding, the Essex region has been experiencing accelerated rates of erosion due to the high water levels and the associated impacts of wave attack on the shoreline and shoreline structures.
The flood watch for all shoreline properties remains in effect until the end of August.
