A new 2.6 km stretch of trail is open to the public between Walker Road and Pillette Road.
Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens and Ward 9 City Councillor Kieran McKenzie unveiled the new trail Thursday.
They say it is the latest in the city's effort to provide a safe means to walk and cycle from one location to another.
"We've heard from residents and business people in the area that they needed a means of getting safely along the Rhodes Drive/Deziel Drive area," said McKenzie. "This paved stretch of trail is the perfect solution, and we're looking forward to the next connection as well."
The trail open now is just one phase of a two-phase project. Construction on the next stretch is underway. It will continue east along Rhodes Drive to Jefferson Boulevard and connect to an existing multi-use trail on Quality Way.
"With trails like this one, as well as the Dougall Underpass trail that we opened a few weeks ago, and bike lanes just finished in the upgraded Dominion and Northwood area, we're making key investments in healthy active living," said Dilkens.
The cost of construction was about $976,000. The Ontario Municipal Commuter Cycling Program provided a grant worth $651,000.
The work is part of Walk Wheel Windsor, the city's Active Transportation Master Plan.
