Provincial police laid over 200 charges during a Canada Day long weekend traffic safety blitz in Essex County.
Officers focused on roadways, waterways and trails. Ontario Provincial Police officers handed out 157 speeding tickets, cited three people for seatbelt infractions, and laid eight stunt driving charges as well as 38 other provincial offence charges.
There were also four charges under the Off Road Vehicles Act and one marine-related violation.
"As we enter the summer months of 2020, Essex County OPP will continue to ensure the safe passage of all residents and visitors to the area through strict enforcement and education of our drinking and driving laws on our roadways, waterways and trails. The instances of stunt driving continue to be a concern throughout our communities. If you're inclined to drive at an excessive speed, be prepared to be without your vehicle and drivers licence for a minimum of seven days and have the ability to call a friend to drive you to your intended destination as your vehicle will be seized," said Inspector Glenn Miller with the Essex County OPP.
There were no alcohol-related charges laid over the blitz, however, two drivers were issued drivers licence suspensions for being in the warn range.
