The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has reported an additional seven cases of COVID-19 in the region.
Only one of the new cases, which were announced on Friday, is linked to the agri-farm sector while two are community cases and four are still under investigation.
In the last two weeks, the region has seen a major spike in cases linked to farms in Leamington and Kingsville. There are currently four locations experiencing outbreaks. In the last seven days, 83 per cent of regional cases originated in Leamington and eight per cent originated in Kingsville.
The spike in cases has resulted in an increase in the rate of transmission.
"Every case is leading to more than one new cases but we have seen variation in the past month and many of the case increases that we are seeing is still limited to the agri-farm sector. Overall the community had done an excellent job in reducing the number of cases in the community and we continue to see that trend when looking at the cases outside of the agri-farm industry, " said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health for Windsor Essex.
Close contact with a confirmed case remains the primary source of transmission in the community. Cases in the agri-farm sector and long-term care homes are all considered close contact.
