Ontario's police watchdog is no longer investigating Windsor police officers who used tasers to subdue a man in April.
The Special Investigations Unit was called after an incident on April 13 involving Windsor police and a 29-year-old Windsor man.
According to a report by the SIU, Windsor police were called to an address on Marentette Avenue and located a suspicious person in a backyard. There was a struggle and two officers used their conducted energy weapons.
The man was arrested and taken to hospital where it was found he did not sustain any serious injuries.
“Based upon the SIU’s preliminary inquiries, I am satisfied that the man did not sustain a “serious injury” for purposes of the SIU’s mandate," said Joseph Martino, Director of the SIU.
Because there were no serious injuries the SIU investigators determined they had no jurisdiction over the case and the investigation was discontinued.
