Dr. Ahmed urging caution

As more of the province's economy reopens, the Medical Officer of Health for Windsor Essex is urging residents to continue limiting social gatherings and trips to the store.

"As we are seeing more and more people outside in the community, that doesn't mean the crisis is over and we can let our guards down. It is even more important now when you are interacting outside with more people outside that you must follow some of that guidance, especially those who are at a higher risk of developing and contracting some of these complications related to COVID," said Dr. Wajid Ahmed.

He is reminding people to go back to the basics, make essential trips only, wash your hands often, and keep a two-metre distance between yourself and other people.

"It's not over. People still need to follow all of that guidance, so don't get distracted by the number of people that you see in the street or the number of cars that you see outside. The risk is still there and we would like to keep it contained the way we have been doing for the last two months," said Dr. Ahmed.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 13 additional cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, for a total of 745 in the community. The health unit also reported the death of a man in his 60s related to the virus. The community has lost 62 people to the disease. To date, 300 people have recovered. There are 1,869 test results pending.
