Online meeting turns into robbery

The Windsor police are reminding residents to be careful when meeting with unknown people to exchange items after a meeting arranged through an online buy and sell website turned into a robbery.

The Amherstburg detachment of the Windsor Police Service was called to the area of Sandwich Street North and Alma Street for a robbery on April 30 around 9:45 p.m.

The victim reported that they were meeting a person they met through the site to purchase an item. The person threatened the victim and demanded money. The person then gave the victim an empty box and ran off.

Police identified a suspect and he was arrested on Tuesday in the area of Brock Street and Gore Street.

Dakota Doering, 24, of Amherstburg is charged with robbery. The charge has not been proven in court.
