Windsor's former Central Library Branch up for lease

The building that used to house the Windsor Public Library's Central Branch on Ouellette Avenue is available to lease.

A listing by Royal LePage lists the building at 850 Ouellette Ave. as a "Class A office, medical and commercial building."

The main floor is going for $20 per square foot. On the second floor, it can be leased for $15 a square foot, and just $8 a square foot, on the lower level.

"Building is ready for many uses with an elevator and escalator and escalator to each floor. Beautiful high ceilings," read the listing.

Last April, the Downtown Mission announced it bought the building from the City of Windsor and launched a $9.3 million fundraising campaign to transform the facility into transitional housing for the homeless. However, just before the deal was set to close in February, the Mission sold it to a third-party and announced it was moving into a new location across the street after the campaign fell short

The Central Library Branch is now at a temporary location further down Ouellette at the Paul Martin Building.
