Flooding preparations continue

As water levels continue to rise, the City of Windsor is taking more steps to prepare residents.

The lake is currently 21 centimetres above where it was at this time last year. Water levels are expected to continue to rise until at least mid-summer.

The City of Windsor is encouraging residents to sign up for Windsor Alerts to receive important messages during an emergency. The alert system would be used in case of flood, fire or other disasters.  Over 5,000 people have signed up for the system since it was launched at the beginning of the month.

The city has purchased over 100,000 sandbags and has been working with residents to build berms and put up sandbags in vulnerable areas.

The sandbag distribution centre on Little River Road is open Monday-Friday. Eligible residents along the north side of Riverside Drive can make an appointment to fill up sandbags by calling 311.
