COVID-19 causes five more deaths in Windsor-Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit is reporting five more deaths in the community due to COVID-19.

Two women in their 80s, a woman in her 60s, a woman in her 50s, and a man in his 50s all died from the disease. Windsor-Essex Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed said all of the patients had underlying health conditions that contributed to their deaths. COVID-19 has caused 43 deaths in the community.

There were 12 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the region as of Tuesday morning, bringing the total in the community to 581. A total of 6,199 people have been tested in Windsor-Essex. The health unit is waiting for 856 test results.

There are now outbreaks at six long-term care and retirement homes. Franklin Gardens is once again experiencing an outbreak. A previous outbreak at the facility had already been resolved.
