Windsor man robbed in distraction-type incident

Windsor police are reminding residents to be on guard after an elderly man was the victim of a theft.

Officers responded to a theft call around 3:45 p.m. Sunday on Turner Road near Ypres Avenue. The victim, a man in his 70s, told police he saw a dark-coloured vehicle pull up and a female passenger call out to him for directions.

While they were talking, the female passenger managed to pull the victim close and exchange the necklace he was wearing for a cheaper one. She then let the man go and the vehicle took off.

The female passenger is described as white, in her early 40s, with brown hair and bad teeth. She spoke with a European accent. The driver was a white male in his early 40s with short brown hair. A teenage female was riding in the back seat.

Anyone who may know who the suspects are or may have witnessed the incident is urged to call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4830. Anonymous tips may also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
