The Town of LaSalle has run out empty sandbags at its self-fill stations, so it is asking residents to call ahead.
The number to the Public Works Department is 519-989-4143. The phones will be answered Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Residents who are registered will get the sandbags delivered to their driveway, possibly by noon the same day.
Those who need more sandbags can call the same number but will have to provide photo proof previous ones were placed around their property to guarantee delivery.
Once you have the sandbags, they can be filled at one of the town's free self-service sand filling stations. They are at 2160 Old Front Rd., behind the Goodwill Donation Centre, and at the LaSalle Public Works building at 2170 Judy Recker Cres. While at the refilling stations, residents are asked to adhere to social distancing measures.
The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for all shoreline areas in the Essex Region, and areas of particular concern include the shores of the Detroit River. Those living along Front Road and west of Front Road are at risk of flooding and shoreline erosion.
