Flood warning issued for Lake Erie, Detroit River shoreline

Residents living the shore of Lake Erie in Leamington are warned there could be more flooding with strong winds expected to continue out of the east-northeast Thursday.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning for the stretch between the Wheatley Harbour and Point Pelee National Park.

There is already water over the road along Cotterie Park Road and Lakeshore Drive between Fox Run Road and Mersea Road 2. Some roadways in the Town of LaSalle are also experiencing flooding.

There are expectations water levels will be higher and waves could top shoreline structures.

It has also issued a flood warning for LaSalle along the Detroit River.

The flood warning is in effect until noon on Friday.

The authority issued a long-term flood watch last month for the shore of Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River because of high lake levels.
