Flood waters creep onto Island Crescent properties

A flood warning has been issued for Island Crescent in Lighthouse Cove as flooding is expected to continue throughout the day and into Wednesday morning.

Officials with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority issued the warning on Tuesday.  The Essex Region Conservation Authority has also issued a flood warning for the low lying beach communities between Ruscom River and Lighthouse Cove in the Town of Lakeshore.

Conservation officials said winds are expected to change direction on Tuesday and gust up to 60 kilometres per hour.

"Weather forecasts are calling for the winds speeds to remain similar to current and build slightly this afternoon until early Wednesday morning," read a release from the LTVCA. "As the winds shift from the west to northwest, further areas within Lighthouse Cove are expected to flood as lake water is pushed towards our shoreline."

Road closures signs have been posted in some areas. Residents of Lighthouse Cove in Lakeshore are being advised to keep an eye on current conditions and avoid the shoreline due to safety concerns.

The wave action on Lake St. Clair is expected to calm down overnight.

The flood warning is expected to remain in effect until Wednesday.
