Back-to-back kitchen fires keep firefighters busy

Fire officials are urging residents to cook responsibly after two fires broke on the same night, within two blocks of each other.

Windsor Fire and Rescue said firefighters were called shortly after 6 p.m. on Monday to the Marine City apartment complex on Ouellette Avenue at Tecumseh Road East. The fire was contained to a first-floor unit.

Just over an hour later, firefighters were again called to an apartment building fire, this time on Ouellette at Ellis Street East on the third floor.

Both fires were extinguished quickly and were caused by unattended cooking.

"Two fires tonight, within two blocks of each other, within two hours, both in apartment buildings, both caused by unattended cooking," fire officials said on Twitter. "WFRS is urging residents to use safe cooking practices and dont leave the kitchen unattended."

No one was injured in either fire and damage estimates have not been provided.
