Ontario's law enforcement watchdog agency has cleared an OPP officer in a crash last summer in Lakeshore.
The incident happened on the night of July 19, 2019 on Amy Croft Drive near Marina Grove Crescent, just east of Manning Road. An OPP officer spotted a motorcycle making an abrupt lane change and began a pursuit with lights and siren operating. Once the motorcycle rider blew through a stop sign, the officer chose to end the pursuit for public safety reasons.
The officer was soon notified that the rider had crashed into a parked car. The rider was taken to Windsor Regional Hospital with a broken pelvis, according to the report released Friday by the SIU.
The report concluded that with the rider refusing to cooperate with SIU investigators, and the officer choosing to stop the pursuit, no action will be taken against the officer.
"I have no reasonable grounds to believe that the officer either caused or contributed to the collision in question, or otherwise drove dangerously in violation of the Criminal Code," said SIU director Joseph Martino in his decision.
