Leamington residents charged under Emergency Act

Provincial police have charged two Leamington residents under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.

In two separate incidents in Leamington on April 9, police were called to gatherings of more than five people. One incident happened on Wigle Street and the other on Satinwood Crescent. Police determined that a number of the people at each location were not residents of that address. As a result, two Leamington residents have been charged with failing to comply with an order made during a declared emergency.

The OPP is reminding residents that the provincial order that prohibits all gatherings of more than five people applies to private homes.

The OPP says it will continue to educate the public about the rules under the EMCPA and lay charges as a last resort.
