A 40-year-old Windsor man is facing numerous charges after a 17-hour standoff on the west side.
Windsor police responded to a home on Rooney Street near McKay Avenue around 7 p.m. Sunday to a report of a person being violent and refusing to leave. A lengthy standoff ensued, requiring the services of the Windsor police Emergency Services Unit and a tactical unit provided by the Ontario Provincial Police.
After hours of trying to get the man to leave, officers finally took him into custody around 12:30 p.m. Monday. Detectives from the Major Crimes Division obtained a warrant to search the premises, and some items connected to the incident were seized, according to Sergeant Steve Betteridge.
Kevin McCandless is charged with two counts of uttering threats, and one count each of assault, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, mischief under $5,000, and breach of probation.
These charges have not been proven in court.
