Fearing a repeat of last year's violence, Tecumseh town councillors have voted to hire Ontario Provincial Police officers to patrol this year's Victoria Day Fireworks celebration.
A report to councillors argued, "during and immediately following the 2019 event, there were issues associated with aggressive behaviour, with some people experiencing physical assault as well as bullying and abusive language."
A 17-year-old was charged with robbery after another teen was assaulted and had their cellphone stolen.
Hiring the OPP will cost the town $1,400, money that will come out of the police services budget.
This year, the fireworks celebrate its 43rd anniversary on May 16.
The rain date is May 17.
