Charges laid in human trafficking investigation

Windsor police have arrested and charged a man from the Greater Toronto Area after a human trafficking investigation.

Around 11am Saturday, Windsor police received a call from a police service in the GTA about a possible female in distress.

They found the female in a parking lot of a motel on Huron Church Road near the EC Row Expressway. She told the police she travelled to Windsor from the GTA with an adult male. Police believe that a number of human trafficking offences occurred.

Windsor police say the man allegedly involved her in the sex industry. He was believed to be controlling the victim's finances, clientele and movements,

The man is charged with trafficking a person by recruiting, trafficking a person by exercising control, material benefit resulting in human trafficking, publishing an intimate image without consent, sexual assault, sexual interference with a person under the age of 16, and invitation to sexual touching of a person under the age of 16. None of the charges have been proven in court.

Police have not released the identity of the accused to protect the identity of the victim.

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
