Longtime west Windsor eatery to close

A go-to place for many on Windsor's west side will soon close its doors.

The owners of Skippy's Restaurant, a diner that has provided affordable meals to the community for almost 40 years, announced via Facebook that it would close by the end of next week.

"To all our valued customers and friends, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support in the last 40 years!" read the post. "We will be closing as of March 9, 2020! This means you have until Sunday, March 8, to get in for some of your homestyle favourites here at Skippy's Restaurant."

Skippy's opened in 1981 at University Avenue West near Crawford Avenue. The diner has been a hit with neighbourhood residents, including University of Windsor students drawn to its affordable breakfast menu. The restaurant also features an outdoor patio and is liquor licenced.

The post did not give a reason for the closing or hint at the future of the property.
