Lewenza considering run for council

Local Unifor members are encouraging Ken Lewenza Sr. to put his name in the ring for Ward 7 councillor in the city of Windsor.

Unifor Local 444 President Dave Cassidy said there have been many discussions and he's hopeful an announcement will be made soon.

"I've been lobbying him now for a few weeks because there is nobody that I can think of that has the love of people, has the love of the city of Windsor and he just touches so many people, he would bring a good mix," said Cassidy. "He can bring people together, be it business, be it labour, he's well rounded."

Lewenza is the former national president of the CAW and former president of Unifor Local 444. There are currently four candidates running for the spot; Igor Dzaic, Barbara Holland, Greg Lemay, and Michael Malott.

Nominations for the position have to be submitted by March 13, 2020, at 2 p.m. The by-election will be held on April 27, 2020.
