Two unlicenced Windsor pot shops busted

A joint operation by policing agencies has resulted in warrants being executed against a pair of unlicenced Windsor pot dispensaries.

Ontario Provincial Police's Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team executed the warrants, along with its Essex County Community Street Crime Unit, and Windsor police on Wednesday.

OPP Constable Jim Root said warrants were executed on a business located at Erie Street near Ouellette, and the other at a shop on Tecumseh Road West near Partington Avenue.

Two homes were also searched, both in Windsor. The first was on Louis Avenue near Logan Avenue, the other on Marentette Avenue near Ellis Street East. From all four locations, unspecified quantities of cannabis, cannabis-related products, electronics and Canadian cash were seized.

No additional details on these searches were provided as of early Wednesday evening.

The OPP reminds residents that even though recreational cannabis is legal nationwide, it can only be purchased legally in Ontario online or at licenced brick-and-mortar stores. Windsor-Essex does not have any legal cannabis stores at this time.
